JUST LISTEN

A mighty fortress is our God,
A bulwark never failing;
Our helper he, amid the flood
Of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great;
And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
Our striving would be losing,—
Were not the right man on our side,
The man of God’s own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he,
Lord Sabaoth his name,
From age to age the same,
And he must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
Should threaten to undo us;
We will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us.
The prince of darkness grim, —
We tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure,
For lo! his doom is sure, —
One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers —
No thanks to them — abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours
Through him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also;
The body they may kill:
God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

Everyone is posting such great hymns. This is also one of my favorite! He does a very good job in singing it.

Hi Sarah,
Doesn't he have a lovely voice!
I love the old hymns, they are song much anymore and it is so disappointing.

We sing them all the time in my church. Actually, that's all we sing. It's one reason I enjoy my church. I go to the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

Hi Sarah,
I'm glad you are attending a church that feeds you. We are still searching. There is not a lot of Sovereign Grace Churches here if any. Most th churches are Arminianism it is really disheartning.

Before I started going to the OPC, I was going to the PCA. I didn't like the PCA...too liberal...at least the one I was in. I bemoaned my problem to Jim at Old Truth and he found for me the church to which I now go. I would have never thought of going to it before. I thought "Orthodox" was somehow related to the Catholic church but it isn't. I would highly recommend you visiting one if there is one by you.

Thank you Sarah. I do believe here in Canada the Orthodox Churhes are affiliated with the Catholic Churches. Jim and I were thinking of venturing out and putting an ad out there asking if there were others that would like to begin a Sovereign Grace Church, could you please pray about this for us?

The pastor that preaches at the church we have been attending the past year is a lovely man and a good Preacher but he is not really a preacher, teacher and I know he is not a 5 pointer. I guess I am feeling half fed and I need more.
What bothers me a lot too is the music before the service is loud and more geared to younger folks and I feel the music then should be more mellow to prepare you for listening to the message and even the music during service is the same. They throw in an old hymn or two, if we are lucky.

This is a very powerful hymn and this young man sings it wonderfully.

Our pastor has instructed our music leaders to choose songs that are God centered and not man centered. It makes a huge difference in our worship.
We sing all old hymns at the nursing home we minister to on sunday afternoon. It is amazing to watch the transformation on the elder saints faces as they recognize and sing them. They minister to us more than we minister to them. Praise be to God!

Dear Mrsevenso,

I agree God centered not man centered and that is what a lot of the christian music today is.
That's great that you go to sing at the Senior's home,you can be such a blessing to these folks. I use to spend time with a lady I met while I was talking care of her sister before she died. Our relation continued on when she moved to a seniors home. She was in a wheelchair since she was around 25-30 because of arthritis, she was 82 when I met her and she ministered to me until she died. She was of such a humble spirit, I miss her so much.
