LIMITED ATONEMENT
Christ Jesus "gave his life as a ransom for many;" and by that ransom He wrought out for us a great redemption. I shall endeavour to show the greatness of this redemption, measuring it in five ways. We shall note its greatness, first of all from the heinousness of our own guilt, from which He has delivered us; secondly, we shall measure His redemption by the sternness of divine justice; thirdly, we shall measure it by the price which He paid, the pangs which He endured; then we shall endeavour to magnify it, by noting the deliverance which He actually wrought out; and we shall close by noticing the vast number for whom this redemption is made, who in our text are described as "many."
This is how C.S.Spurgeon explains "PARTICULAR REDEMPTION" or what is also known as
"LIMITED ATONEMENT". Mr. Spurgeon explains it very well. Please scroll down and read how he explains it in 5 Parts.

I have read some things by CH Spurgeon. My 9 year old son read his biograpy last year in our homeschool. I sometimes use his "Morning and Evening Devotions" book.
The "Limited Atonement" however confuses me. Christ died for ALL and gave us a free will. I'm rejoicing that I'm a "whosoever" as mentioned in John 3:16.
I love the song you included with the post entitled JESUS. I've always enjoyed that chorus but those guys singing had such lovley harmony. I truly blessed my heart this morning.
Have a blessed day!
Oh I just saw the link you left in your last comment for me, quite funny actually!
Hi Pam,
If Christ died for all, then all would saved.
and I agree God gave us free will and we by nature do not seek God, we are born depraved and we would not seek God because we hate what He represents...Holiness. He draws us and then we respond. Salvation is of the Lord.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Romans 9:15-18 15 For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion." 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth." 18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before oJohn 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

I had a hard time with it too until the Lord revealed the truth to me by really studying it.

Cristina,
Thank you for posting this. These are the truths I hold dear as well.
Beverly
Amen, Cristina! The truth indeed sets us free to give God all the glory for our salvation. You're right. If Jesus had paid for everyone's sins on the cross then there would be no one in hell. Christ's payment was "large" enough to pay for everyone's sins but it only paid for those He elected from the foundation of the world.
Amen Beverly and Sarah.
Salvation is of the Lord.
Cristina
